what a sweet little one--i love her cheeks! :) hope your cow is alright--and hope she doesn't dry off b/c of the bloat!
OMG, do they do that?? Ack, I sure hope she doesn't dry off.
must have let her have to much grain?/corn? hope she is doing ok, you can poke a hole back by her flank to let gas out, or alkacelcer
Oh she is ridiculously cute! She has the best cheeks! I love how you have her in such girly clothes, so sweet! Hope your poor cow gets better soon. I have dealt with it in a goat, but I didn't realize that it happens to cows too. Good luck!
We fed the cow a bunch of green grass we cut that was growing all lush & yummy over our septic field. She chowed down happily. Then we learned all about how gorging on green lush grass can cause bloat 24-48 hours after. And 24 hours later- she was all fat like a balloon. We're still battling it. It's not at poke a hole in her stage yet. But I'm prepared if we have to resort to that. Bleh.
Brett, I love getting her dressed everyday! Teehee! I've saved so many cute little girly things over the years, it's just soo much fun to get to use them! <3
How did you get rid of the bloat in your goat?
Hi Aubrey,
Oh congratulations to you! What an extra blessing too - a girl - she is beautiful and wow - you birth good size babies. Mine tend to be between 6, 8 and 7, 8 .
Sure hope your cow works through the bloat.
I am excited to read more through your blog - i have been having my own doubts about being able to milk the goats if we breed them twice a day and if I can handle it with all else. It seems as if have even more with all your little ones, so perhaps I can. Thank you for the inspiration.
Again, congratulations!
Warm wishes, Tonya
Treat bloat with baking soda asap. Make a paste if you need to and get it into her with a soda bottle. Or if you can get handfuls stuffed in her mouth, do so. Keep her up and walking. You can also try getting her front feet elevated while her back feet are on the ground, like she would position to get into a trailer. Bloat can be lethal and it can happen fast.
I hope your cow is ok. If you need more info on cow care try keepingafamilycow.com. They are an excellent source of information.
How's your cow? Worried about her!
Beautiful baby girl!
I've really enjoyed reading your blog! Thanks for sharing your life stories! We homeschool and have a raw milk farm near by, but if we didn't, I'd be farming too! Good luck with the cow, and congratulations on your little one!
Best Wishes,
Sunmaiden
She is so beautiful! I just want to hug her. We are anxiously waiting to find out what you named her. Send me an e-mail....how you would find the time is beyond me but maybe that helpful 13 year old can send us a note. Much love & hope you all get snuggled before it gets too cold there.
Cows can bloat from eating too much lush, green grass? Weird. Why does that happen? I like the idea of Anonymous' baking soda cure. That sounds like a great thing to have work!
Your new babe is so delicious! Love that little dress you've got her in. I dream of dressing a little maid someday myself.
what a beautiful little girl!!!! so nice to *meet* you, i'm amy.
Congrats on the baby! She's beautiful :)
Hope the cow is OK!
